# Noah Berrie — noahberrie.com > Sound artist working between installation, composition, and performance. ## About Noah Berrie is a New York and London-based sound artist working between installation, composition, and performance. His work examines sound's physical, perceptual, and residual nature, often reduced to its fundamental components: vibration, resonance, density, and tuning. The result is felt as much as heard — sound you move through, inseparable from space and material. Trained as a classical violinist, Berrie now performs with a custom electroacoustic system built around feedback and responsive electronics. He is active in experimental and improvised music communities, scores for film, and releases music independently. His work has been presented at the Haus für Medienkunst, Oldenburg; Alexander McQueen Sarabande Foundation, London; Tracey Emin Foundation, Margate; Gray Area, San Francisco; and Audium, San Francisco, among others. He holds an MA from CCRMA at Stanford University. ## Education - MA Music, Science & Technology — Stanford University, Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) (2022) - BS Symbolic Systems & BA Music (Composition) — Stanford University (2021) ## Residencies & Grants - Stiftung Niedersachsen Media Art Grant, Haus für Medienkunst, Oldenburg, DE (2025–26) - High House (Antony Gormley, Vicken Parsons), Norfolk, UK (2025) - Studio Richter Mahr, Oxfordshire, UK (2025) - Tracey Emin Foundation, Margate, UK (2025) - Artist in Residence, Sarabande Foundation (Lee Alexander McQueen), London, UK (2023–24) - New Voices Residency, Audium, San Francisco, US (2022) - Chappell Lougee Grant, Composition Residency, Berlin, DE (2019) ## Current Exhibition ANTIPHON — solo exhibition, Haus für Medienkunst, Oldenburg, Germany (March–May 2026) Five sound installations across two floors: Suspension, North Sea (Heave, Sway, Surge), Interval II, Fundamental, and Antiphon. ## Key Works - SUSPENSION (2026) — Nine piano wires suspended by lead weights, vibrating through electromagnetic feedback. Self-generating, tuned in just intonation around the artist's body weight. - North Sea (Heave, Sway, Surge) (2026) — 534 steel strings plucked by motors driven by gyroscope data from a buoy deployed in the North Sea. Twenty-five hours of ocean transposed into metal. - Interval II (2026) — Bass piano strings mounted between rooms, activated by vibrating motors running a wave algorithm that ripples through the building. - Fundamental (2026) — Two subwoofers play recursive room-tone recordings filtered below 20 Hz — felt in the chest and floor, not heard. - ANTIPHON (2026) — Sixteen speakers distribute a slowed string quintet composition through a darkened room. Generative, durational. - Setting (N1 5SH) (2024) — Twelve strings tuned chromatically, electromagnetically activated by local FM radio. An ever-changing music specific to a single place and time. - Interval (2024) — Wall-mounted strings vibrating via self-oscillating feedback loops, tuned by the architecture of the space. - Mirror (2024) — Modified plate reverb instrument. Gallery microphones routed to voice coils magnetize a steel plate etched with empty staves. - Paper Speakers (2023–24) — 34-channel installation using handmade speakers of paper and copper wire. - Organ Music (2021–2022) — Site-specific piece performed in total darkness at Audium, San Francisco. Throat wired to transducers, the entire building becomes a vibrating mass. - My Heart (2021) — Audiovisual piece for ten screens and eight speakers. Point cloud cities, spatialized sound, and the dreamlike fragmentation of memory. - Not Here (2021) — 14-channel sound installation with Angelica Jopling. Intertwining narratives from found objects in space. Meaning strips away toward incomprehension. ## Contact - Instagram: @noahberrie - Bandcamp: noahberrie.bandcamp.com ## Site Map - / — Works (selected works) - /info — Bio, CV, shows & exhibitions, residencies & grants, education, performances, press, contact - /works/* — Individual work detail pages
